Public BBQ

The Portland Botanical Gardens is a tranquil, well-maintained retreat in the heart of the town, a short walk from the main port. Despite its small size, the garden offers many amenities, including free entry, clean toilets, and dog-friendly paths. It's a delight to explore, with a clear river running along one side and numerous impressive floral displays, especially the dahlias, which are noted to be among the best seen by many visitors. The rose garden's scent is divine, and there's even a bowling green on-site. Visitors also enjoyed the well-managed lawns, perfect for relaxing or even a spot of yoga. However, caution is advised to stay on paths due to potential snakes. The gardens are an easy 20-minute stroll, providing a beautiful escape for both locals and tourists alike.

Generally No! The BBQs are first come, first serve. However, if you plan on having a larger event then please check with Glenelg council.

Aussie public BBQs are simple to use. Majority of sites listed on this website are gas or electric BBQs. Simply press the button and it will turn on for a set amount of time (10-20 minutes).

You should first check with Glenelg council about the rules and restrictions.

Generally, it is permissible to utilize your own gas BBQ, provided it remains under continuous supervision. However, the usage of Charcoal BBQ's is typically restricted, with the exception of parks equipped with designated charcoal disposal bins.
